A quickly-prepared loaf

600-700 ml sifted rye flour
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp ground bitter orange
1 1/2 tsp ground fennel
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
300 ml sour cream
150 ml dark syrup

Preheat the oven to 175°C. Mix the sifted rye flour, salt, spices, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda in a bowl. Stir in the sour cream and syrup. Spread the mixture in a greased, oblong shaped baking pan, 1 1/2 litres. Smooth the surface. Bake in the lower part of the oven for about 1 hour. Allow the loaf to cool on a grill under a baking cloth.
